That '80s Show is a short-lived American sitcom that aired on FOX from January to May of 2002. It was a spin-off of the popular sitcom That '70s Show.

Plot

The show follows the lives of struggling musician Corey Howard (played by Glenn Howerton) and his associates, friends, and family. Corey had just been dumped by his girlfriend and has a working relationship (and eventual romance) with June Tuesday, a punk rock girl.

Why It Sucks

  1. Despite being a spin-off of That '70s Show, it has nothing in common with that show besides the name.
  2. It was only made to cash in on the then newly emerged 1980s revival that dominated the 2000s.
  3. None of the cast members or characters from That '70s Show appear in the spin-off.
  4. The humor in this show is very weak, mainly consisting of forced 1980s references.
  5. All of the daring stuff that made That '70s Show popular is absent in this spin-off.
  6. Pointless celebrity cameos from 1980s celebrities like Tiffany and Pat Benatar.
  7. Similar to Henry Danger and many modern sitcoms, this show overuses the laugh track as if the audience was high on cocaine.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. A good selection of 1980s music, such as Killing Joke's "Eighties" as the main theme.
  2. There are a handful of funny jokes.

Reception

The show received negative reception from That '70s Show fans, newcomers, and critics alike.

Due to the show's poor reception, That '80s Show was cancelled after only one season of 13 episodes.

Trivia

  • This show was Glenn Howerton's acting debut.
  • Corey Howard, Glenn Howerton's character, is the cousin of Eric Forman from That '70s Show, which was never brought up in the series itself.
  • Three of the show's actors, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, and Brittany Daniel, would go on to star in the well-received adult sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as Dennis Reynolds, Charlie Kelly, and Carmen the transexual, respectively.
