Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an American animated television series. It was based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics created by Mirage Studios, and later spawned a toyline, two reboots of the series (one in 2003 and the other in 2012) and several live action movies. The series was developed by David Wise and Patti Howeth, directed by Yoshikatsu Kasai for season 1, Fred Wolf for seasons 2-7, and Tony Love for seasons 8-10, and lasted for 193 episodes or 10 seasons. While the first 7 Seasons were well received, the and Season 8 garnered mixed reception, the same cannot be said about Seasons 9-10. This page will cover those Seasons.

Bad Qualities

  1. The show did not need to continue on, if the show ended at around Season 7, it could've seen a proper conclusion with Shredder being defeated and the Technodrome finally being stopped.
  2. Some of the characters from the first 7 Seasons were removed, such as the Channel 6 staff.
    • The worst offender being Shredder and Krang, who were removed in Season 9. Causing the series to jump the shark.
  3. The addition of new characters like Carter and Lord Dregg were not needed. Carter specifically served no purpose on the show.
    • Carter was hated so much that he was removed in Season 10 of the show.
  4. The sky is constantly an ominous shade of red and dark blue, earning its nickname of the "Red Sky" seasons. This premise also doesn't make sense, as there is no daytime present in every single episode at all. The Mirage comics and the later TMNT series didn't need a dark sky to appeal to its themes.
  5. The show tries to act edgy and attempts to imitate action-oriented TV shows at the time, only to fail badly and end up looking like a poor man's attempt to try and adapt the Mirage comic books. It also lacks the charm that the source material had.
    • None of the drama, the grittiness or the violence in the Mirage comics are present in these seasons as this incarnation of the TMNT just doesn't fit well with the edgy and serious themes in the source material.
  6. Instead of an original animated sequence, it's a cheaply made one consisting of clips from the seasons and the live-action TMNT films, very similar to that of early 2000s anime show openings.
  7. Despite the edgy themes such as the dark red skies and the Turtles sporting a rather menacing look resembling the Mirage comics, the action and fight scenes are still lethargic at best.
  8. Some of the voice actors changed.
    • In the final season, Raphael was voiced by Michael Gough, replacing Rob Paulsen.
    • Shredder's voice actor, James Avery, was replaced with Bill Martin, in an attempt to make him more menacing.
  9. Some of the characters' voice acting is still horrid to hear at, like Leonardo and April's voices.
  10. Bebop and Rocksteady are nowhere to be seen after Season 8, which unceremoniously ends their characters in the show.
  11. The animation, though an improvement over the first 7 Seasons, have some hiccups.
    • The animation in the action scenes are rather bland and lethargical, as if the characters barely hit each other at all.
  12. The pacing isn't any good at all. It is rather inconsistent. It can get slow, or it can get fast.
  13. The Turtles are given a bad reputation from the general populace because of slander from April's boss.

Good Qualities

  1. The new theme song is more action-oriented.
  2. As mentioned above, The animation did improve over the first 7 seasons.
  3. The action though having some flaws, has gotten better.
  4. The voice acting, though having some flaws, is still good.
  5. Season 10 does improve the series.
  6. The turtles are likable and so is Splinter, as they have not been flanderized.
  7. The show did have a great series finale, Divide and Conquer.
  8. Some 1987 fans will like these Seasons.

Reception

Despite the first 7 Seasons receiving the positive reception and Season 8 received mixed reception, Seasons 9-10 were met mainly negative reviews.

It's not without it's fanbase. Some people do enjoy these seasons.
