Is it sad how Logan went from the most liked plush channel on YouTube to one of the most hated content creators on the internet all because of one character?

Logan Austin Thirtyacre (born: November 17, 1994 [age 26]), better known online as SuperMarioLogan (often shortened to SML), is an American YouTuber who makes plush videos. He uses plushies from Mario games, and has some toys that are non-Nintendo as well. He also does reviews, updates, etc. His reviews were on his SuperLuigiLogan channel, which was once his new main channel. He started making videos in late 2007. His entire channel has been demonetized since late 2017. On the SuperLuigiLogan channel the content ranges from SML Movies to SML Reactions, where Logan gives Behind the Scenes and facts when filming certain episodes. He currently uploads his current SML plush videos on the SuperBowserLogan channel, since July 2019. Logan used to be a good YouTuber during 2007-2015, but after Jeffy's introduction beginning with 2016, his channel started going downhill.

Plot

Plush versions of Mario characters, and many non-Mario characters, have adventures at their home and at school.

Why It Sucks Now

SML jumped the shark in 2016 when it introduced Jeffy. His jokes always consist of him doing inappropriate actions, like swearing frequently, doing gross things, and annoying Mario to no end. He crossed the line in "Jeffy's Bad Word" and "Locked Out" his two most infamous videos. Most of his videos are simply rehashes of Bowser Jr's original videos, meaning Jeffy is partly the new Bowser Jr. He also almost caused a young boy to hang himself with a noose, causing the channel to get demonetized and age-restricted.
Since the introduction of Jeffy, a lot of main characters have become the victims of flanderization, to the point where they become the clichéd "jerkass cast":
- Rosalina went from being the dumb but loving girlfriend of Mario to an insensitive, excessively dull-witted and abusive wife who yells at Mario and defends Jeffy for no good reason. She along with Bowser Junior had the worst flanderizations of the cast.
- Joseph went from being the typical jerk jock with a speech impediment to a greedy spoiled jerk on par with The Goodman Family in "Joseph the Millionaire!".
- Speaking of Mr. Goodman, he went from being the dumb but benevolent comic-relief to a tyrannical mob boss who claims to own Mario's house and extorts him with "house payments", threatening to rip his genitals or nipples off if he doesn't pay. He also rarely, if ever, gets any comeuppance, making him the most loathed character in the series (ironically, he's one of Logan's characters).
Throughout 2017 and 2018, most of the videos are only about Bowser Jr or Jeffy, as if Logan has trouble focusing on the other characters.
A large majority of the videos nowadays have horrendous gross-out humour, very mean-spirited characters, overused jokes, filler, and/or lazy attempts at humour. Examples of these traits include:
- Cody making Bowser Jr pull a very long sausage out of his mouth in "Heartbroken."
- Jeffy, in the earlier videos, pooping his pants. Do we really need to explain this?
- Jeffy thinking his arms are missing in "Jeffy Loses His Arms" when they clearly aren't.
- Nancy physically abusing Jeffy in front of Mario and Rosalina in "Jeffy's Parents."
- One disgusting moment where Brooklyn T. Guy farts in front of Mario and Rosalina in "Jealous Brooklyn Guy!".
- The infamous scene where Cody poops his pants after eating Mexican food in "Bowser Junior Learns Spanish".
- In both "Bowser Junior Almost Goes to Sleep Forever" and "Joseph the Hero", Chef PP/Joseph save a characters' life and makes them a slave right after, and if the character refuses to do their command, the abuser says they should've let the slave die.
- Jeffy screaming anytime Mario turns off the lights in "Jeffy Sleepwalks."
- Jeffy dressed up as Mario in "Jeffy's Future, mimics everything he says for no reason.
- In "Jeffy Goes to the Arcade", Jeffy somehow gets himself in the crane machine, and there is a four-minute scene of Mario and Brooklyn Guy trying to get him out.
  - Not just those problems, but many catchphrases are overused too, such as Jeffy often saying "I don't have to" in a weird voice, Richard shouting 'Eww, Poor!" and Mario screaming "JEFFY!"
Some videos can have good first halves but have bad second halves (eg. The DNA Test or Chef Pee Pee’s New Job), leading to the disappointment of many, and is an example of bad writing.
Aside from Jeffy, there are plenty of awful and/or unlikable characters including:

- Mr. Goodman (while he was good during 2007-2015, he quickly got flanderized beginning with the episode "The Koopalings: Part 2".)

Logan himself started to become a problem for the channel too. He mostly only uses Jeffy for his videos, due to Jeffy being a cash cow for the channel. And the infamous moment where he promises to get rid of Jeffy, but later decided to keep him, ultimately breaking his promise. This caused most fans to leave the channel.
Jeffy also never learns his lesson or finds any problems with the trouble he causes, no matter what. he promised to be a good boy at the ending of Jeffy's Parents, but in the very next video starring him, Inside Jeffy, he annoys Mario for the whole video, meaning he learned nothing.
Some videos have segments that have pretty bad animation. The best example of this is Jeffy's Sleepover, where the animation was used in Brooklyn Guy's story, which doesn't help the fact it was animated by Nicktendo (not to be confused with reviewer NICKtendo).
Many videos have misleading titles, like "Chef Jeffy", "Jeffy's Online School", and "Jeffy Loses His Arms." Coincidentally, all three have Jeffy in the title.
There is never any character development. One example is in Jeffy's Paper Shredder, where Goodman says he paid off Mario's house payment for him, but in Goodman's next video, he wants Mario to pay him again, making this development completely pointless!
- On top of that, for the most part, it is the opposite of character development, some of the characters (especialy Rosalina and Bowser Junior) get worse and worse almost every time they appear.
Some videos involve the character mocking the fans.
- In fact one of the blogs on Chilly's channel, which was the video where SuperMarioLogan promised to get rid of Jeffy after getting his ads back, but he took the promise out of context, also showed them mocking their older fans.
2020 is (arguably) the worst year for the channel since it is made during the COVID-19 pandemic and many of the characters such as Cody didn't appear as much as they usually tend to due to Pablo being on quarantine.
One of the main criticisms of these seasons is that pretty much everyone tends to bully and torture Mario for petty and unfair reasons to the point were it's completely understandable why Mario is usually selfish and childish: his "friends" and family are always being mean to him first.
There is a very overused running joke where Mario tries to feed Jeffy Green Beans for no reason other than, 'they're good for him'. Jeffy always refuses to eat the green beans because he hates them, but Mario never stops feeding them to him.
A handful of videos consist of just one joke that isn't funny, like Gravity, where Bowser Jr, for the whole video, breaks many cups and plates and blames it on Gravity.
Introduced in "The Human Potion", Bowser Jr, Joseph, Cody, and Bowser all turn into very hideous looking human puppets. Mario, Rosalina, and Bully Bill also receive awful human puppet redesigns in "Jeffy's New Friend. Despite how badly the human puppets were received, they appeared in a few future videos. The purpose of this episode was to accommodate Youtube's new regulations on family-friendly characters at the time.
The entire SML channel became demonetized in 2018 simply because of one character: Jeffy. The problem is, Craig the Devil was instead blamed for the demonetization when it should have been Jeffy.
Most videos have very bad morals, such as:
- Bullying
- Lying frequently
- Stealing things
- Framing people
- Crying for attention
- Doing horrible things on purpose
- Breaking things/damaging property
- Not being responsible
- Not listening to people
- Being ignorant and oblivious to others
- Submiting to and agree with an abusive relationship with someone
- Cheating on your husband/wife
- Making someone do what you want instead of what they want
- Taking advantage of others
- Breaking rules
- Being lazy
- Kidnapping
- Spoiling your own child
- Not learning from your mistakes
- Lacking empathy and common sense
- Not standing up for yourself
- Greed is good
Many videos have terrible endings, like Jeffy the Psychic and Bowser Jr's Lottery Ticket.
The video "Jeffy's Kids" was so controversial and disturbing for Youtube that SML became age-restricted. SML's ads were also taken away, but after they were given back to Logan, he went back to his inappropriate content. He clearly didn't learn his lesson.
There are two videos where a character poorly disguises themselves as Jeffy, and Mario, due to suffering from prosopagnosia, can't tell the difference and thinks the person is Jeffy .
In recent times, there is a lot of shameless self-promoting product placement for the SuperMarioLogan merchandise. They even go as far as making entire episodes dedicated to promoting merchandise.
In some videos, Logan uses "gay" as an insult, which is obviously homophobic.
Some of the SML cast members are also problems.
- Lovell is easily the worst offender of the SML crew as he had done tons of terrible things:
  - Lovell was arrested on January 17, 2017 for having marijuana in his car and was arrested with a $1000 bond.
    - Because of this, he used to have a beef against Elaina Keyes (the actor for Rosalina) all because there might of been a possibility that she might of called the police about him having the marijuana in his car. (Fortunately, his beef with Elaina has stopped and they don't hate each other anymore)
  - Lovell is unable to handle negative criticism towards Logan or himself, he made quite a few Instagram videos mocking the "haters".
  - He also tried to take down Gamecubedude300's channel for not reacting to SML episodes positively enough, which lead to Gamecubedude300 to quit making SML reactions and not wanting to have anything to do with the SML community anymore.
  - He even pulled a suicide stunt just so he could promote his song.
The infamous “Pregnant Jeffy” in which Jeffy, a minor gets pregnant! Which is considered pedophilia.
Recently in the modern videos, the soundtrack called "Earthy Crust" by Jingle Punks, became way too overused in the channel as it constantly appears on moments that aren't even that dramatic, or just starts playing out of the blue, which is off-putting, annoying and ridiculous, considering the fact that the soundtrack sounds more like the end of the world than a normal suspense strike and drags on for too long. Not to mention, but there are videos where the soundtrack played more than once or twice. Even moments that were meant to be funny get sadly ruined by this soundtrack. It's almost like the channel is desperately trying hard to be edgy and gain attention.
1. It's brother channel, Titototter isn't any better at this than SML, if not worse, as it is obsessed with the soundtrack and abuses it roughly 5 or more times, which is played prematurely during moments when a character simply scream, or when something unexpected happens (especially when Sonic notices he's wearing a sailor suit), or even when it's not even that dramatic (Adna simply giving Monkey and banana), which comes off sometimes as unfitting and unnecessary.
Logan himself is also considered to be a scammer.
1. Back when he started a Patreon, he promised to do shout outs and names in comments but he did that months later than he should.
2. In November 2020, he announced a giveaway on SML Merchandise that whoever spends the most money on the site, will get a puppet that looks just like them and will announce the winner on Thanksgiving, but he didn't announce the winner at all.
Despite making the transition into making family-friendly content, there are still lots of inappropriate things, such as the "Si Papi" running gag which is known as a sex joke.
During 2019, both Chilly and Logan cheated on each other. Causing many of his fans to get mad at them, they also dislike bombed Chilly's New Boyfriends' Channel just for being with her. However, in 2021 Chilly and Logan are now friends again.
Thanks to YouTube's new rules Logan had to get rid of certain characters due to him thinking that they would violate YouTube's Community Guidelines.
- Doofy the Dragon stopped appearing in future videos due to his suicide jokes.
Some videos don't have any disclaimers in the beginning of the video. For example, the infamous episode "Jeffy's Tantrum" doesn't any NSFL warnings despite having a scene where Jeffy tries to hang himself over a $3 game.
- Because of this, it lead to a seven-year-old child actually attempting to hang himself the way Jeffy almost did in this video. The mother discovered her son and that he was inspired by SuperMarioLogan, so she banned him from watching it. She then reported it to a news station called The Sun. While it is true that it wasn't Logan's fault that the child tried to imitate Jeffy, Logan should of at least put a warning at the beginning of the video to make sure that stuff like this does not happen.
Some episode rely entirely on one joke, such as Chef Pee Pee peeing things that sound like the word “P” in Chef Pee Pee Pees Peas”, Junior being mad at Cody in The School Project, Cody being born on a leap year in Cody’s Birthday, or Cody getting beat up by the police in Cody’s Evil Twin.
On February 5, 2021, Logan has received a cease and desist letter from Doug Bowser and Nintendo of America for using the Mario brand in a raunchy humor environment and misdirecting the audience. As a result, Logan announced that he'll no longer use Mario characters in his videos and instead switch to the human puppets characters thus making the human puppets a permanent change. He's also changing the channel name to just SML to avoid any connections with the Mario franchise. Some people suspect the letter to be fake, thinking that Logan is making mean lies to his fans, but that wasn't the case as the letter turns out to actually be real, though many still believe the letter is a fake, having been forged either by a hater, Chilly, or Logan's second ex-girlfriend Adriana, all to make him squirm. Which could lead to the channel dying for good if the videos don't involve Jeffy in them.

Redeeming Qualities

The channel used to be good before Jeffy was introduced.
Although depending on your view, the channel has been improving since September/October 2020 and has been making really good episodes despite a few bad ones like "Pregnant Jeffy", "Jeffy's New Year Resolution", "The Pink Couch" “Jeffy the Sheep", “Richard’s Mistake” and “Cody’s Evil Twin”. This can be noted on how most of the videos are getting longer and having more good plot ideas, Pablo coming fully back, and most notably how Jeffy isn't becoming that overused like how he was before and using more of the other major characters in the spotlight.
Some bad characters could be likable in some episodes, for example, Rosalina (who is a bad character) is likable in "Pregnant Jeffy".

Some of his jokes are funny like in Jeffy's Taco Tuesday and Chef Pee Pee Pees Peas and in "Bowser Junior's Cookie Crisps" where Bowser Junior made the cookie crisp promo literally illegal by using other companies catchphrases.
Sometimes episode do have good morals, for example, "Mr. Goodman's Son" has a good moral, the moral being "Money can't buy you everything" (even though Goodman didn't see it that way, and slapped his son Richard for saying such a thing).
Logan may not be perfect, but he and the rest of the crew (aside from Lovell, Chilly, and Tito) are not bad people.

- Mario (despite being a greedy idiot for the most part, he is still sypathetic and relatable)
- Luigi (despite only appearing in one modern video "Jeffy's Ghost" and being a hypocritical ghost hunter due to his fear of ghosts)

- God
- Black Yoshi
- Loan Dolphin
- Shrek
- Tom Brady
- Tony the Tiger
After SuperLuigiLogan got demonetised, Logan moved over to SuperBowserLogan and made it a little bit more family-friendly, which might be considered an improvement.
Most of the songs are pretty good and the beats are well made, especially in Season 12 - 13 like "Get Hunky", "We Need That Mustache Back", "Booty Booty" and The Cookie Crisp song.

Lawsuit

In February of 2021, Logan received a letter from a lawyer from Nintendo of America stating that he had to cease all use of Nintendo plushes such as Mario or Bowser, or Nintendo of America would sue him, meaning that he had to switch to his human puppets, which his fans strongly disliked.
