Before this show, every Cartoon Network show ended greatly (2Geniuses 2Gether 4Ever; Johnny Bravo Goes to Bollywood; The Ballad of Cow and Chicken; I Are Legend; The Powerpuff Girls Rule!; Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show; and Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog). But sadly, for real this time, the very first Cartoon Network show ended on a sour note.
Part of Season: 2
Episode Number: 13b
Air Date: May 27, 2001
Writer: Charles Swenson
Director: Mikhail Tumelia
Previous episode: The Three Amigas

Sleeping Ugly is the 2nd half of the 13th and final episode of Season 2 of Mike, Lu & Og, and the 2nd half of the 26th episode overall, as well as the series finale.

Miss Hortense the Sleeping Ugly Hag is accidentally awakened by Queeks' kiss causing total misery for Queeks.

Why It's Ugly

  1. This is pretty much a torture episode for Old Queeks, as Miss Hortense makes his life miserable.
  2. The old lady, Miss Hortense, is very unlikeable, as she tortures Old Queeks and doesn’t show any kindness or respect after being woken up from a 100-year nap.
  3. Shows have used the being waken up by a kiss plot before, but here it’s very poorly executed.
  4. The plot is completely boring, very dull, and repetitive.
  5. As usual with the show, the pacing is excruciatingly slow.
  6. Most of the music is strange, as usual.
  7. That moment where Miss Hortense pushed Old Queeks and Mike down the mountain and they fell was very painful to watch.
  8. Terrible Ending: Old Queeks knocks out Miss Hortense unconscious, and she goes back into a deep sleep. Then an actual prince comes but goes away when seeing Miss Hortense.
  9. This was an awful way to end the show, and unlike other CN shows before it, it was never saved. Therefore, this is the truly first Cartoon Network show that ended on a sour note.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The voice acting is still good as usual, and for once, Lu doesn’t speak.
  2. Mike and Old Queeks (despite what he did in the terrible ending) are tolerable characters.
  3. Lu does appear in this episode, but it’s just a cameo at the end and it's not enough to make her a major distraction and a nuisance like she usually is.
  4. Some of the music in this episode is passable.
  5. The character designs of Miss Hortense and the Prince are passable.
  6. The concept of an old lady waking up from a 100-year sleep is an interesting concept, but it was poorly executed.
