Robyn Byrd tries to cancel Ren and Stimpy reboot
On August 5, 2020, Comedy Central announced that they were doing a reboot of Ren & Stimpy as an adult re-imagination, but this time without the show's creator John Kricfalusi due to his sexual harassment allegations in 2018 where he is not going to receive financial remuneration or creative input from the reboot because of that. Billy West is going to return to voice both Ren and Stimpy in the reboot.
However, the announcement caused a divisive response from people, some giving a chance to the reboot, while others criticized for not having Bob Camp in the charge of the reboot (justified because he is not the co-creator of the series, proving the opposite of the claims of his fans, supporters and Bob himself, since he was a producer and a creative and supervising director in the Seasons 3-5 of The Ren & Stimpy Show and the characters were created only by John Kricfalusi himself at his stay in Calico Creations in 1979, while Bob Camp was studying at the University of Texas in the United States in the 1970s and also the current administrations of Nickelodeon Animation Studio and Nickelodeon does not care about his participation in the original Ren and Stimpy series and he's not even mentioned or shown, mainly his participation in The Ren & Stimpy Show by Nick Animation on their website or social networks.) and the majority were extremely negative against the reboot, mainly from the animation industry. Creators like Rebecca Sugar were against the reboot and criticized studios for not greenlighting original ideas instead of making revivals and reboots which caused a protest on the internet called #bettercartoon. Coincidentally, all of the new adult cartoons from Comedy Central were not original. They were revivals (Beavis and Butt-Head) and spin-offs (Daria) from other Paramount networks, like MTV.
To make matters worse, on August 14, 2020, a petition on Change.org was made by infamous Kricfalusi's sexual harassment victim and SJW Robyn Byrd to cancel the Ren and Stimpy reboot on Comedy Central, saying that will cause trauma and endanger fans and crew, despite the petition having various inaccuracies like almost none of the original crew of The Ren & Stimpy Show (save for Billy West and a few original writers of the original series) were not called by ViacomCBS to be involved with the reboot (since a new team to the reboot was employed by ViacomCBS themselves). Mainly Kricfalusi wasn't going to be involved with the reboot and wasn't going to use the reboot to lure children with his confidence and abuse them because of his remorse for the bad things he did in the Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story documentary, in the same documentary, about his retirement, he said he still has "tons of ideas, characters and things I would love to explore". Vincent Waller commented on his Twitter he was aware of the Ren and Stimpy reboot, knowing it was in the works, but didn't see anything from the reboot.
Despite this, the petition got 12,000 signatures in a few days and was shared by various artists like Sugar and Lauren Faust. On September 14, 2020, Bob Camp commented on his Facebook page that he heard that the reboot was shelved and talked with the supposed director (possibly Chris McCarthy) of the reboot who said the reboot was shelved. Days later on September 30, Byrd tweeted that multiple sources confirmed that the Ren and Stimpy reboot was officially shelved by Comedy Central despite the tweet's inaccuracy for not linking any source confirming that. This tweet ended up attracting the attention of Cartoon Brew. However, in the same tweet, she ended up doing an unfortunate offensive tweet to a Twitter user who questioned her "sources" that the reboot was shelved saying "Your moms".
But in reality, according to Billy West himself, the reboot is still on, but production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, according to Camp, the crew will reboot the show in a different attempt now (since it's going to be animated at Awesome Inc), and said whether happens was ok and the new people looks cool and nice and loves the original series. But however it turns out that Robyn Byrd currently works to Awesome Inc , but as a consultant to avoid the reboot triggers John's victims like her, that includes a brief change in Ren, at least a part from him that was used by John K. to abuse Robyn and Katie Rice (the Twitter post announcing the change was removed due to negative reception from 4chan users), which ruins the reboot from being good, aside from the studio that will animate the reboot, Awesome Inc has terrible animation on most of the adult cartoons they work on and Snipple Animation will also work in the reboot, despite their poor treatment towards their workers. Besides that, Bob Camp ended up leaving the reboot due to creative differences.
In September and October 2021, fortunately, not only Robyn Byrd's Twitter account TopographicFish got deservedly suspended from Twitter, due to the offensive tweet towards the user who doubted her and her tweets towards John Kricfalusi where a hashtag with his name (#johnk) was used in tweets, which can be considered harassment against him (including once she called his fans as trolls), as well her misleading petition got shut down by Change.org as result for the false information about John Kricfalusi going to use the Ren and Stimpy reboot to lure children to abuse them which is false.
