Oggy and the Cockroaches is a French cartoon made by Jean-Yves Raimbaud, and produced by Xilam and Gaumont Film Company. While Seasons 1-3 and 7-present (time) have been decently received, many have found that seasons 4-6 caused a major decline in quality. It aired on January 2, 2012 - August 3, 2018.
During these seasons, the show was now purposed for cash-cowing kids with very poorly executed episodes and plots, as far as to promote R-rated movies on their YouTube channel.
Essentially, for the Z-Men episode, they basically falsely advertised Deadpool to even photoshop him on the thumbnail, despite the fact there are no cameo or references to said movie in the episode!
These seasons were known to take things that might be copyrighted. In a Season 4 episode, the Super Mushroom sound effects from the video game Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World were stolen. This goes to the episodes Butterfly Race and A Charming Guy.
In Z-Men to the Rescue, which was a parody to the X-Men, absolutely none of the costumes were changed, resulting in copyright infringement.
They even used Windows XP sound effects (like when you connect a device on a computer) in some episodes like the aforementioned A Charming Guy.
The sudden change in art and animation style for season 5 is not only jarring but feels like an unnecessary downgrade. Essentially, instead of smooth rubbery animation, the show uses colored outlines for the characters (which are their colors just darkened) and the animation feels like it's trying too hard to imitate something like The Tom & Jerry Show, which used a completely different style in the first place.
The roaches are more annoying than ever.
In season 5, there is a glaring flaw that literally all of the previous seasons did not follow - the fact Oggy and Jack literally are treated like the lucky protagonists compared to the cockroaches, who are often the subject to slapstick and losing at the end. They only win once, which makes this kind of bias being repetitive and lackluster to watch.
In addition, Marky and Dee Dee are dumbed down to clueless goons of Joey, with Joey doing most of the real mischief with their help.
Some of the season 7 episodes at least get rid of this, thankfully.
Season 6's episodes basically remake classic ones, resulting in nothing new. The later one at least has a few original ones to compensate this.
Olivia is a very flawed character. She takes the entire fun out of the show because whenever Oggy tries to whack the cockroaches, she will defend them, though at least initially within Season 4.
Lady K is very unlikable due to her being a Mary Sue and having very little personality aside from being a love interest for the roaches.
In Artsy Oggy, Oggy actually tortured the cockroaches, though at this point they weren't doing anything wrong, for money.
Some episodes are just plain bizarre, like Oggy Manga Star having Oggy making a manga about himself and the gang (excluding Jack) as ninja-humans (or something), it should be noted that Olivia looks nothing like her actual counterpart.
Most episodes are not as memorable as the first three seasons.
Season 5, 6 and 7's soundtrack is often repetitive and can hurt sensitive people ears, as you often notice the very similar tone over and over again.
Also, the theme song for these have been shortened now.
Oggy is Getting Married! contains a homophobic joke, where Oggy shows the engagement ring to Jack and a woman nearby sees this and walks off disgusted. (Then again, makes sense in a different perspective considering that Oggy and Jack are relatives.) That was the same episode were Jack gets harshly beaten up by the bride’s father (mainly at the face).
The episode "The Kitchen Boy" has a scene where the cockroaches had visible buttocks due to a small incident with their skin. This got cut in other countries for being slight nudity.
In the 5th season, Jack gets treated more harshly a few times, like when some leaders threatened to execute him in a kids' show.
Season 7 was a major improvement despite it still remastering episodes from Seasons 1 and 2.
The animation is still good, which is common with every Xilam show. Especially with season 4, as the style used for season 3 passed on to that.
Season 4 had the same good soundtrack and theme song.
It still has some funny humor, as well with some good episodes like Wrestling Time and olivia
Season 5 had a unique concept with setting the characters in different historical time periods even if it was poorly executed.
There can be a possible reason why Season 6 and most of Season 7 episodes were just repeated and remastered episodes as most channels where Oggy is mostly broadcasted don't show the older episodes nowadays.
The remastered episodes manage to faithfully re-create the older episodes.
