Looped is a Canadian animated television series produced by Neptoon Studios and DHX Media (now known as WildBrain). It first premiered in Canada on Teletoon on March 2, 2016, and was released on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. It also premiered on January 4, 2016, in Latin America on Cartoon Network and in the United Kingdom on CITV.

The series was created by Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton, who also created Grojband, and worked on Total Drama. Kauffman was also the co-creator of Sidekick for YTV.

The series revolves around the life and adventures of Luc and Theo, two boys from the town of Port Doover who attend Port Doover Elementary School. Due to an accident in Theo's garage with an invention he created, the two boys are stuck in a time loop where every day is the same Monday, October 12th. Since the events of that day are always the same, the two know exactly what will happen where and when. They use this knowledge as an opportunity to do whatever they want at school and around their town, usually causing problems when their actions cause errors and other unusual events to occur in the time loop.

Why It's Not Looping At All

  1. Luc Maxwell, one of the two protagonists, is very mean-spirited, stupid, and unlikable to the point where he feels like a no-brain moron and sociopath.
  2. The idea of two kids being trapped in a time loop seems nice, but thanks to all the unlikeable characters and gross-out jokes, it ruins the execution.
  3. Cliched Characters: Jesse is a typical school bully, Sarah is an Alpha Bitch, and Kyle is a Gary Stu.
  4. Most of the character designs are mediocre, even if the art style is good.
  5. Bad voice acting which makes some characters' voices annoying to listen to!
  6. The adults (Claire, Applecrab, Lessard, etc.) are portrayed as morons who can't do anything right, which is offensive to adults.
  7. Hypocrisy: In "Dodge This," after Jesse hits Kyle, Lessard asks, "What kind of monster are you?!", yet he's fine with leaving Luc and Theo to die in "Moby Piranha".
  8. The theme song is annoying with a lot of repetitive lyrics.
  9. Characters who have no reason to exist, like Tommy Sparkle.
  10. Lester is a very unfunny and cliched character who hides from society.
  11. Laughable dialogue, such as "My Name is Morty Muffins," and "Sarah says... O... M...... What?"
  12. Unneccessary pop culture references, such as Luc saying, "And you would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for us meddling kids!", a guy who bears a striking resemblance to Popeye, and Ronnie Trasco (who turned out to be an intergalactic lion pioneer named Angramorgial), who looks suspiciously similar to Lion-O.
  13. The episodes feel like they recycle animations. Sure, it's a time loop, but could you at least use new animations?
  14. There are multiple mean moments in many episodes:
    1. In "Dodge This", Luc and Theo were literally forced into kissing each other! Which itself sounds homophobic?
    2. In one episode, they tortured their principal and pranked him to one point when he was extremely injured by a grizzly bear, and they didn't even care that he can die! (probably due to them knowing they are in the loop and he will be back the next day but it still sounds gruesome)
    3. In the final episode "Balanced Breakfast Part 2" Luc gives really great speech about ending the loop to only reveal! He was joking.
    4. In "Jan-Itor-Nado," Luc made a mess nonstop so the janitor can't go on his break to get all burritos every single time!
    5. In "Applecrab-Dabra" Applecrab removes his thumb as a magic trick! Later, it's revealed he did really REMOVE HIS THUMB which sounds gruesome, and also it caused Theo to faint and Luc to vomit... ending the episode.
  15. Most episodes rely on torture themes because of some of their stupid ideas (mostly from Luc).
  16. Some episodes contain Toilet/Gross-Out Humor.
  17. The show ended on a cliffhanger with no continuation at all. Luc and Theo were supposed to make it out of the time loop, but the outcome was never resolved when the show was canceled, thus making the entire show pointless.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Some likable characters, like Theo.
  2. The animation and the art style are very nice and good to watch and the animation is relatively smooth!
  3. Likewise, some of the character designs, like Luc and Theo's, are decent.
  4. Despite the abysmal execution, the plot is interesting.
  5. There were a few funny moments.
  6. Even if Luc joked about his speech about ending the loop in the last episode, It still was great.

The show received mixed-to-negative reviews and was criticized for its unfunny humor, gross-out jokes, and awful characters.

The show currently holds a 5.2/10 on IMDb. It has a 78% on Google, and a 2/5 on Common Sense Media, with the consensus, "Time warp buddy comedy is light on consequences."
