Larva (also known as Larvae) is a computer-animated television series made by TUBA Entertainment in Seoul, South Korea. This cartoon shows two larvae as its main characters. The first season was premiered on KBS 1TV, the second season was premiered on KBS 2TV, the third season was premiered on JEI TV, and the fourth season was premiered on Netflix.

Bad Qualities

  1. The animation is mediocre. The first few episodes had horrible-looking visuals, which made it look like a Xbox cutscene.
    • Also, the character designs for Red and Yellow don't look a lot like actual larvae, for instance, Yellow looks more like a slug with stripes than a larva.
  2. Immature potty humor and childish humor. First off, constant fart jokes and a bunch of gross-out humor. A few episodes in the first 3 seasons focused only on farts. Second off, a character known as Brown is a dung bug, and he carries poop everywhere he goes with him. A season 2 episode had him eat it, and another episode revealed it actually made his breath typically stink. It’s still understandable since he is a dung beetle after all, but still, the humor can be extremely immature and predictably so.
  3. With that said, most of the running gags can get very tedious such as Red slapping Yellow with his butt being a prime example.
  4. The noises most characters make are usually irritating or annoying, especially Red's screaming being the biggest offender.
  5. It tends to jump the shark a lot at the end of every season as the Larva go to different places (ex. Season 2 is a house, Season 3 in New York, and Season 4 is an island).
  6. Not to mention that several toony sound effects can grate on the nerves, even if there are decent ones.
  7. Some episodes are considered filler, such as Yellow singing after Red steals his food.
    • The episode "Once upon a time" that featured the titular larvae duo as infants (which was an outdated trope of making the main characters younger) is the most cringe-worthy episode in the entire series.
  8. New characters from Season 2 and 3 are pointless since they usually never appear again after both seasons ended.
  9. Yellow and Red (out of the many characters in the show) are massive Butt-Monkeys as they constantly get tormented by Black (the brute of season 1) and the slapstick-induced nature around them. At least they aren’t as much of a punching bag as Meg from Family Guy or other characters that seem to relate because of how it's presented (like if Red or Yellow did deserve the abuse they get for something they did that was flawed and fallible that provoked another or for absolutely no reason [e.g Black or other enemies being unprovoked from mild accidents]).
    • And in spite of them being decent/average characters with redeeming qualities, Red can be very obnoxious and arrogant with his jerkassery at times and Yellow can be quite immature, inane, gluttonous, and quite the idiot most of the time.

Good Qualities

  1. The animation has improved since Season 2. The music is usually pretty nice and/or catchy to listen to.
  2. Larva Island, which is technically Season 4 to 5, is actually good and a massive improvement to this show.
  3. Mayfly (a Season 2 episode) is a heartwarming episode.
  4. The show at least can be decent with its humor and writing at times. For instance, the slapstick and surreal humor can be really funny at times.
    • With that said, some episodes can be enjoyable whether it is amusingly surreal like the "Bobsleigh" episode from season 2 or just a decent episode.
  5. With that said, there are decently made plots in most episodes.
  6. Some characters can be likable (like the titular duo) in spite of most of those voice clips and the idea with the titular larvae using their tongues as hands and arms (along with other characters like Pink/etc) is pretty creative.
    • Also, in spite of those voice clips that usually have an irritating pitch, there are times depending on your view, where some of the voices can sound quite amusing and/or humorous (e.g Yellow's goofy yells/voices he makes for example).
    • On Netflix, some of the annoying sound bites or sound effects from the original episodes seem to be cut off and replaced with more tolerable sound effects as a bonus. (e.g Season 1)
  7. The show was at least an attempt for Tuba Entertainment to make their company more successful (even for its cheesy and/or harmless ways of reuploading countless episodes as complications on YouTube).

Trivia

  • The 3 seasons were also aired on Cartoon Network.

I liked this show's highlights (especially Larva Island as the cooler side of this show), I just didn't like the generic childish grossout humor as a repetitive trend [And that episode when they were baby versions of themselves, oh my lord, that was truly awful & cringe-worthy].

Other than the big flaws with this show, this show was pretty decent to me.

Sorry if I'm late to the party, but opinions don't warrant whiteknighting.

Yeah, it didn't warrant white-knighting even if MediaSurfer's opinion's weren't PERFECT, some of the users (e.g ItMeansNothing and Hookuai) were being total douches to MediaSurfer for harsh and close-minded reasons.

I think this show was unfairly blocked (along with Larva Island), I think those other edits may have had a bad impression but others should be able to edit pages like this.

Can someone tell me why MediaSurfer is getting called a whiteknight? What happened with him?

He was being called a white knight for editing this page when fixing some details and provide elements about this show in a harmless way (even when being told to stop by Hookuai in a pigheaded way in hindsight even if MediaSurfer's reasons weren't THAT perfectly typed down when giving good aspects of this show) and was blocked from this page and two users: ItMeansNothing and Hookuai were being a massive jerks towards MediaSurfer. Such to the point that everyone started to blame him for getting this page and the one on the Best TV Shows wiki blocked from ever being edited by other users for editing his own reasons on both pages.

This was resolved when Mrkepo unlocked both pages to be edited again. (I think MediaSurfer wasn't able to get access back to his account, which can be the reason why he isn't seen editing anything else anymore)

To summarize this; MediaSurfer was trying to get across with expressing his opinions of this show when editing this page, Hookuai and ItMeansNothing overreacted to his opinions like he was some sort of internet troll or something like that, and they were actually the ones who resorted to nearly deleting this page and then blocking it for nobody to edit it because of targeting MediaSurfer. (where Trevor807 brought the page back from deletion and Mrkepo also unlocked both of those aforementioned pages for everyone to edit)

So all of this blame got put on MediaSurfer just because of some harmless opinion?

Well, harmless opinions to put it as a such from both pages, and yes while MediaSurfer tried sharing his edits by opinion from a different positive perspective on this show if somewhat naively done enough to have reverted edits when he just needed direction with what he meant to type.

And to be fair, their actions of reverting his edits were sensible but MediaSurfer being blamed for another's actions is rather harsh so it's good that this whole thing was resolved eventually.

I'm actually disappointed by all of this. Being blamed for something because of sharing your opinion from a different perspective? That's really stupid.

I agree, I mean did you check out the view history section from both pages? Because yes, MediaSurfer was a bit stubborn and determined with wanting to share his edits from a different perspective, everything else that did happen after the edits were reverted, that was pretty stupid and disappointing. So I agree with you.
