Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! is an American comedy streaming television series created by Jamie Foxx and Jim Patterson that premiered on Netflix on April 14, 2021. In June 2021, the series was canceled after one season.

Plot

Bachelor Brian Dixon unexpectedly becomes a full-time father to his teenage daughter, Sasha.

Why It's A Major Embarrassment

  1. Mean-spirited and trashy humor.
  2. The therapy scene in the first episode (#BlackPeopleDontGoToTherapy) was really uncomfortable as the therapist think that Brian and Sasha are dating but they’re father and daughter.
    • Which makes matters worse, Sasha even told her that Brian was her dad and the therapist said “You know, calling someone “Daddy” can be part of a bigger sphere of intimacy, baby.” EW!
  3. Extremely poor and nonsensical writing, storyline, and dialogue that is filled with unfunny puns and awful jokes.
  4. The episode titles are a complete rip-off of Sam & Cat's episode titles as they both use hashtags and the words are just scrunched together.
    • Keep in mind that Sam & Cat is also a bad show but that show has more creativity and more acceptable writing than this show.
  5. Brian and Sasha are both horrible protagonists.
    • Brian is just a dad who give his daughter no privacy whatsoever.
    • Sasha is just one of those bratty daughters that they have on TV for no purpose at all.
  6. Like most modern sitcoms, the laugh track plays non-stop.
  7. The show tries to have the charm as most 1990s sitcoms, but fails miserably.
  8. It tries so hard to be hip and current, like making references to social media (the show has a TikTok and Instagram styled intro) and roasts.
  9. Sasha is a horrible daughter. She disrespects her father left and right and never supports or has faith in him whatsoever.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Decent theme song.
  2. Decent acting.
  3. The premise was actually interesting but executed poorly.

Reception

Dad Stop Embarrassing Me received very mixed-to-negative reception from audience and critics. The show has a 4.2/10 on IMDb
