2 Broke Girls (stylized 2 Broke Girl$) is an American television sitcom that aired on CBS from September 19, 2011, to April 17, 2017. The series was produced for Warner Bros. Television and created by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings.

Plot

Street-wise Max (Kat Dennings) doesn't expect much from the new waitress at her night job, a rich girl who has reluctantly joined the foodservice industry after a string of bad luck. But to her surprise, Caroline (Beth Behrs) is a woman of substance and just maybe her ticket to success. The two strikes up an unlikely friendship after Caroline discovers that Max can bake a mean cupcake, and the women decide if they can just wrangle up the start-up cash, they may have found their big break. Their co-workers at the diner are boss Han Lee, cook Oleg, and cashier Earl.

Bad Qualities

  1. Similar to seasons 6-8 of SpongeBob SquarePants, most of the episodes are either stupid, blind, annoying, idiotic, nonsensical or have horrendous plots that are nothing but pure filler.
  2. Characters are arguably bland, unrememberable, or lacking their qualities.
    • Max Black is arguably the worst character as she is a heartless jerk and she can be racist at times. She mocks Asians.
    • Caroline Channing is just an annoying blonde stereotype. While she is a parody of Paris Hilton, she lacks her qualities.
    • Sophie was a very unnecessary placement to the show as all she does is brag and always insult Caroline for no reason.
    • Han is just an Asian stereotype and always tries to be hip and current and it gets annoying, along with Caroline, He an also a punching bag.
    • Oleg always sexually harasses Max and Caroline for literally no reason whatsoever (Oh yes, very quality writing on these characters).
  3. Very cheap comedy with a lot of potty humor.
  4. Way too many unfunny sexual jokes, especially from Max Black.
  5. Max and Caroline will treat the customers like absolute garbage but somehow never get in trouble.
  6. Mean-spirited, sexualized, racist[1] and trashy humor.
    • Max got Caroline fired from her job (not the diner job) by telling horrible lies about Caroline sexually harassing her and got her fired from the job she enjoyed having. Sadly, Caroline forgave her.
  7. This show relies on sexual humor for comedy.
  8. In one episode, the show did a very bad edit on Nicki Minaj's song named “Starships”, this song was still catchy but the editing was very poor.
  9. Sophie always gets the useless audience cheer every time she appears in the scene for no reason whatsoever and it gets annoying REAL FAST.
    • Also the laugh track plays after every line and can get on your nerves.
  10. Han trying to be hip rather gets annoying and unfunny.
  11. False advertising: In some of the posters, they edit Beth Behrs's face so badly that it doesn’t even look like her, she looks like a whole different person.
  12. All the other main characters are against Caroline Channing for little to no reason at all, so much to the point that it becomes a Caroline torture show.
    • Sophie always insults Caroline on how she got small breasts and it comes off as unfunny and annoying.
      • In fact, most of Sophie’s jokes are not funny at all. While Jennifer Coolidge is funny in real life, the same can’t be said about her character on this show.
  13. Very disrespectful jokes such as Max making a joke about child molesting, which would make some audience members unconformable, especially after the #MeToo movement.
  14. Audience members never get a proper ending to Max's parents.
  15. The show ended on a cliffhanger.

Good Qualities

  1. Despite Behrs' first role in the horrible American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, This show jump-started Beth Behrs' career.
  2. Decent acting.
  3. 2 Broke Girls made references to other shows such as; Hannah Montana (Also Frances Callier ,who played Roxy in Hannah Montana, made a guest appearance), I Love Lucy, and Pepe Le Pew
  4. Some good and funny episodes such as; “And the Girlfriend Experience”, “And the Candy Manwich”, “And Martha Stewart Have a Ball (Part 1 & 2)”
  5. Both Kat Dennings (Max Black) and Beth Behrs (Caroline Channing) have great onscreen chemistry together.
  6. Despite Max and Caroline being bad characters, they're at least decent protagonists.
  7. Seasons 3 and 6 are both tolerable.
  8. Two girls working hard to get money to open a cupcake business is an interesting concept for a show but was executed poorly.
  9. Though many viewers didn’t like Max and Caroline, the show wouldn't be as great as it is without them either.
  10. Catchy theme song.
    • The soundtrack is alright.
  11. Greatly designed sets.
  12. Funny and iconic moments here and there.
  13. Caroline goes through some decent character development throughout the series, as she matures into less of a spoiled brat and gradually becomes a little tougher and more street-smart as the series progresses. This is evident in a later episode when her imprisoned father Martin Channing shows concern that she's unable to handle poverty life, only for Caroline to confirm that she isn't the same spoiled brat she once was at the beginning of the series.

Trivia

  • Beth Behrs (who portrayed Caroline Channing) later went to go portray Gemma Johnson in another CBS sitcom called The Neighborhood.
  • Max and Caroline have been cosplayed by many people.[2]

Reception

Since its debut, 2 Broke Girls has had a mixed reception from both critics and the general audiences alike. While the on-screen chemistry between the two lead characters, Max and Caroline was praised, the others criticized the show's reliance on sexualized, racial humor and stereotypes. The show currently has a 6.6/10 on IMDb. [3]
