It's the end of an era as we know it after decades...

Starting in 2018, Disney started to shut down various Disney Channels (Disney Channel, Disney XD & Disney Junior, however most of the time they only shut down Disney XD only for some reason) in various countries outside the United States to focus on Disney+.

Why It Sucks

  1. Many parents and kids were upset about this when all of this was first announced.
  2. Disney expects everybody to not have cable TV and move on from it, yet cable TV is far from dead and isn't going to be extinct anytime soon.
  3. It's a poor, twisted and greedy way to get people to buy Disney+.
    • In fact, even before the shut down for the British-Irish channel was announced, the North American rights for 101 Dalmatian Street were bought by Disney+. However, the streaming service did no promotion on the series whatsoever. The series did premiere on cable television on Disney XD on March 29, 2021, but the ratings for the episodes were so bad due to the series having a bad timeslot when it first aired. It truly shows that Disney doesn't care what they do with 101 Dalmatian Street.
  4. Even though some countries are lucky such as Taiwan, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Malaysia and etc, some of these countries either don't have Disney XD or don't have Disney+ yet, which makes the idea completely unfair.
  5. And also, the viewers won’t be seeing the acquired shows from the Disney channels ever again, in turn, may encourage piracy.
  6. Disney also announced that both Radio Disney and Radio Disney Country will shut down in the first quarter of 2021 in order to focus more on Disney+, which makes no sense, as Disney+ is not a music streaming service.
  7. To make matters worse, Disney would shut all their 18 TV channels down in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong in favor of Disney+.
  8. The mass closure of Disney affiliated channels (other than Disney Channel and Disney Junior) can pose as a serious loss for consumers and cable TV providers in developing countries where English content is frequently pirated.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. The United States aside, other countries and continents such as the Netherlands, Canada (since it was brought to their country since 2015; Disney doesn't own the channel, but they licensed the branding to Corus), France, Germany, Latin America, Japan, South Korea, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, and a few others would still have Disney Channel in their country and not be affected, despite a couple not having Disney XD as said earlier on WIS #4.

I was going to add in one good quality that the USA is not affected by this (hopefully not), but I stopped and thought that redeeming quality would seem really ironic. I hope this doesn't happen to other countries that still have Disney Channel.

They already shut down Radio Disney. I am gonna miss the station. It was a blast. I love Backstreet Boys, Nsync and other artists. The Los Angeles station is closing.

I just hope that Turner doesn't do that with Cartoon Network because of HBO Max

I don't think they will, as HBO Max is only available in the United States and Canada for the time being.

Highly Doubt They Will, Same With Viacom With Nickelodeon And Their Other Networks (Comedy Central, MTV etc.)

They should have advertised it instead of shutting down to let people go to Disney+.

Fuck Disney+ then! This is the worst way to advertise streaming service as cable ain't going any fucking where! Walt Disney is rolling in his grave! I'm sorry, but what the fuck?!

This is the problem with these cool streaming services... they somehow try to kill other competitors. I wish those cable channels, like Nickelodeon, can have a variety of shows again rather than airing SpongeBob all day long, or doesn't die.

Bad news: All 3 of them are shutting down in Malayasia, and Disney XD is shutting down in all of Southeast Asia on December 31. I really hope there's no more after this.

Disney+ is great, but this is the most scummiest and greediest way to advertise it.

Why close down Radio Disney if your streaming service won't even stream music?

Another channel we miss is Toon Disney. When I went to the Toon Disney website in 2009, It reads "Toon Disney is now Disney XD".

To be honest, they should just shut the Indian feed and nothing else. Disney Channel India spams Doraemon all day long so they don't matter.

This, along with the shut down of Blue Sky Studios and Premier Access on Disney+ felt like Disney was ran by two greedy business men by the name of Big Tex Arkana and Mr. Krabs.
